Sunday, December 28, 2025 -Seven residents of Lawanti village in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State have died in a motor accident along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway while travelling to attend a wedding ceremony.
The victims, identified as Gambo Abbo (35), Umalkhairi (18),
Rabiu Abubakar (28), Fatuma Hassan (28), Amal Abubakar (3), Adamu Bello (4) and
Zara’u Alhaji (27), were reportedly en route to Maiduguri in Borno State when
the crash occurred on Saturday, December 27.
Reacting to the incident, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya
described the accident as a painful and devastating loss to the affected
families, the Lawanti community and the entire state.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ismaila Uba
Misilli, the governor said the untimely deaths had deeply touched the hearts of
residents, noting that words were insufficient to console families who lost
loved ones under such tragic circumstances.
Governor Yahaya commiserated with the families of the
deceased, including the District Head of Jalingo, Bello Hassan Babangida, who
lost his sister and niece; Idris Lawanti Maigari, who lost his daughter; and
Idris A. Isah Lawanti, the councillor representing Akko Ward, who also lost
close relatives.
He prayed that Almighty Allah grant the bereaved families,
relatives and the Lawanti community the strength, patience and fortitude to
bear the loss, and asked that the souls of the departed be forgiven their
shortcomings, rewarded for their good deeds and granted Aljannatul Firdaus.
