Monday, December 29, 2025 -Three men have
drowned during a picnic in a river in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue
State.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Boxing Day, December
26, 2025, has thrown the community into mourning.
It was gathered that the victims were part of a group that
visited the river for leisure.
Bodies of the three men were recovered from the river during
recovery operations on Saturday.
One of the victims was identified as Msughter Felixe
Terwase, from Mkar, Gboko.
Photos seen on social media shows emergency responders, an
ambulance, and crowds of anxious onlookers gathered at the riverbank during
search and rescue efforts.
According to reports, River Buruku is notorious for its strong currents and has recorded several drowning incidents in the past, particularly during festive seasons.
