Thursday, December 18, 2025 - The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested two suspects linked to the vandalism of telecommunications sites and equipment at Eripa and Otan Ayegbaju.
The State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, said the case was
reported to the command on Tuesday, December 9, and that the report triggered
an immediate response that led to two arrests.
“On December 1, 2025, engineers from IHS Telecommunications
Company, who were on site to assess the locations, discovered that the sites’
backup batteries had been stolen,” Sotiyo said.
He identified the suspects as Arisekola, a 35-year-old
commercial driver, and Alhaji Adedokun, a 50-year-old scrap dealer, adding that
both men admitted their roles in the alleged theft, while two other suspects
remain at large.
“The suspects, Arisekola, a 35-year-old commercial driver,
and Alhaji Adedokun, a 50-year-old scrap dealer, confessed to the crime, while
two other individuals are currently at large,” he said.
Sotiyo said Arisekola, who lives in Iree, told investigators
he was contacted to transport the vandalised items to Ikirun, where Adedokun
operates as a scrap dealer.
“In his confessional statement, Arisekola, who is a resident
of Iree in Osun State, said he was contacted to convey the vandalised items to
Alhaji Adedokun, a scrap dealer in Ikirun,” he said.
Sotiyo added that Adedokun also acknowledged receiving the
items and purchasing the batteries removed from the sites. “The scrap dealer
also confessed to having purchased the 14 pieces of batteries that were
vandalised at the two telecommunication sites,” he said.
The commandant said operatives are working to arrest the
remaining suspects and reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting critical
national assets and securing lives and property across Osun State.
