Woman sentenced to 12 months in prison for attempted human trafficking




Wednesday, November 12, 2025 - The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has secured a one-year sentence against a 25-year-old woman, Markus Jennifer, for attempting to transport another person for the purpose of exploitation. 

She was convicted and sentenced on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. 

The sentence was handed down by Hon. Justice Isiaka Abdullahi of the State High Court sitting in Kaduna. 

Markus was arraigned on May 12, 2025.

“A State High Court sitting in Kaduna, presided over by Hon. Justice Isiaka Abdullahi, has convicted Jennifer Markus (25, female) for attempting to transport another person for the purpose of exploitation, contrary to Section 13(2)(c) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015,” the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.
