Saturday, November 22, 2025 - US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth says he has held talks with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor, Nuhu Ribadu, amid rising concern in Washington over the continued k!llings of Christians in Nigeria.
Hegseth shared the update in a post on X, saying the meeting
focused on “the horrific violence against Christians” and the need for stronger
cooperation between both countries.
“Yesterday, I met with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor
and his team to discuss the horrific violence against Christians in their
country,” he wrote.
He added that under the guidance of the U.S. president, the
Department of War is “working aggressively with Nigeria to end the persecution
of Christians by jihadist terrorists.”
Photos posted with the message show Hegseth and Ribadu
shaking hands, as well as Ribadu signing documents during the meeting.
The visit comes at a time when several U.S. lawmakers and
human rights groups have intensified pressure on Nigeria over continued attacks
on Christian communities, especially in central and northern regions.
