Two suspects arrested for murder of police officer in Ondo




Friday, November 28, 2025 - Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly st@bbing a police officer to d3ath during an altercation in Akure, Ondo State. 

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26 in the Arakale area of Akure. 

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging widespread attacks in the Arakale area of Akure, describing them as misleading and unverified. 

According to the PPRO, an altercation reportedly broke out between the officer and some individuals, during which the officer was st@bbed. 

The Commissioner of Police deployed operatives to the scene where two suspects, Shina Jacob, 25, and Felix Olalekan, 32, were arrested in connection with the attack. 

The injured officer was rescued and taken to hospital, but he later d!ed while receiving treatment. 

“The attention of the Ondo State Police Command has been drawn to misleading and unverified stories circulating on social media alleging widespread attacks in the Arakale area of Akure. These unfounded reports appear to be a deliberate attempt by some individuals to distort facts and undermine the security advancements recently achieved across the state,” the statement read.

"To set the record straight, the Command confirms that an incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday involving a police officer who was performing lawful duty in the said area. 

"An altercation ensued between the officer and some recalcitrant individuals, during which the officer was tragically st@bbed. This unfortunate event triggered an immediate and coordinated police response.

"Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police deployed a team of operatives to the scene, resulting in the arrest of two suspects directly connected to the incident. They include Shina Jacob ‘m’ aged 25 years and Felix Olalekan ‘m’ aged 32 years. 

"The injured officer was also rescued and rushed to the hospital; however, despite all efforts, the police inspector sadly passed away while receiving treatment. 

"The follow-up operation conducted last night formed part of the Command’s sustained and strategic efforts to rid the state of violent criminal elements and prevent further breaches of public safety.

"Furthermore, the Command reiterates that it will not tolerate any form of human rights abuse by its officers, just as it will deal decisively with anyone who assaults or attacks police officers in the course of their lawful duties. The arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

"In light of the foregoing, the Command strongly cautions members of the public against circulating unverified information capable of causing panic, creating unnecessary fear, or diverting critical security resources. 

"The deliberate spread of misinformation and disinformation constitutes a criminal act, and individuals found culpable will face the full weight of the law.

"The Ondo State Police Command remains resolute, steadfast, and fully committed to maintaining law and order in collaboration with other security agencies. 

“The Command also expresses profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his continuous guidance, strategic support, and unwavering commitment to strengthening policing across the country.”
