Monday, December 1, 2025 - A 13-year-old boy in Harare, Zimbabwe, has been accused of killing his friend during a heated dispute over a packet of snacks.
The incident occurred on 28 November 2025 in Stoneridge Park
and has now become the focus of a murder investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic
Police. Both the suspect and the victim, who were the same age, have not been
officially identified due to their juvenile status.
What began as a seemingly trivial disagreement about sharing
food reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation. Police say the
altercation led to severe injuries that proved fatal for one of the boys. In an
official statement shared on X on 30 November, authorities confirmed the case
is being treated as murder. “Police in Harare are investigating a case of
murder in which a 13-year-old male juvenile died after being assaulted by
another 13-year-old male juvenile following an argument over sharing a packet
of snacks. The incident occurred on 28/11/25 in Stoneridge Park,” a police
representative said.
Officers have withheld details about the type of snacks and
the exact nature of the attack, citing the ongoing investigation and the legal
protections surrounding minors. Residents of Stoneridge Park have been left
stunned by the tragedy, struggling to comprehend how a disagreement between
children could end in such devastating loss.
