Monday, November 17, 2025 - A lone motor accident on the Kiyawa-Azare road in Jigawa State has killed seven people and injured eleven others.
Jigawa police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam in a
statement on Sunday said the crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. near Jigawan
Kurma Village in Kiyawa local government area.
He said the fatal crash involved a Toyota Hummer Bus with
registration number CH 205 RSH, driven by Mallam Ibrahim Potiskum, aged 70,
from Potiskum in Yobe State.
According to him, the vehicle was carrying 18 passengers
travelling from Kano to Potiskum.
The police preliminary findings revealed that; “The two rear
tyres of the vehicle suddenly burst while the driver was on a high speed,
causing the bus to somersault and veer off the road.”
He said officers from the Motor Traffic Division, led by the
Divisional Police Officer in Kiyawa, immediately moved to the scene for rescue.
According to the statement, seven people, including the
driver, died on the spot.
Eleven others were taken to General Hospital Dutse for
treatment. Four have been treated and discharged, while the rest are still in
the hospital.
Police said all recovered luggage have been secured, and the
bodies have been deposited at the General Hospital Dutse mortuary as efforts
were on to contact the victims’ families.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed
sympathy to the bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of the injured.
He urged motorists to obey road safety rules and ensure
proper vehicle maintenance, especially during long trips.
