Thursday, November 20, 2025 - Four women, including a pregnant woman were k!lled when an overhead water tank collapsed on residents in Zugai village, Roni Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, November
18, 2025 when villagers gathered to fetch water.
An eyewitness, Imrana Miko, told newsmen that the tank which
supplies water from a solar-powered borehole, gave way while dozens of
residents were standing beneath it.
“Three people d!ed on the spot, while many others sustained
injuries and were rushed to the hospital,” he said.
Another resident attributed the tragedy to structural
weakness, saying the supporting pillars had deteriorated under the weight of
the fully filled tank.
The Chairman of the Maranda Development Association, Comrade
Musa Lawal, who confirmed the incident described the scene as heartbreaking.
Also confirming the incident, the Chairman of Roni Local
Government Council, Dr. Abba Ya’u Roni, explained that strong winds contributed
to the collapse.
“The incident was caused by a strong wind while people were
busy fetching water. The wind pushed the tank, and it collapsed on the people,”
he said.
He added that the council had taken responsibility for all
medical bills of the injured.
Roni sympathized with the victims and prayed for eternal
rest for the deceased.
