Monday, November 17, 2025 - Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on advertising and marketing professionals to help counter what he described as false claims of religious genocide in Nigeria.
Idris made the call on Saturday at the 5th National
Advertising Conference organised by the Advertising Regulatory Council of
Nigeria, ARCON, in Abuja.
He said Nigeria was battling widespread misinformation,
especially narratives portraying the country as hostile to religious freedom.
According to him, while the country faces security
challenges, attacks by terrorists and armed groups are not targeted at any
specific religious or ethnic group.
The minister said the Federal Government had invested in
strengthening the security architecture and was committed to restoring
stability.
Idris urged marketing and communication professionals to
play a role in shaping accurate public perception of the country, especially
internationally.
He said advertisers were “custodians of national image” and
should help counter misleading stories through factual and responsible
communication.
