Saturday, November 15, 2025 -The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Bola Oyebamiji, has stepped down from his position as he prepares to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Oyebamiji confirmed his resignation in a chat with our
correspondent on Friday night, explaining that the move aligns with the
provisions of the electoral law.
“Yes, I have resigned in compliance with electoral
guidelines in order to pursue my Osun 2026 governorship ambition,” he wrote.
A close associate of the former NIWA chief also confirmed
the development, noting that Oyebamiji opted to exit the role to dedicate his
full attention to the governorship race.
“He has indeed resigned. He is contesting, and he wants to
focus fully on the campaign,” the source said.
Prior to his leadership at NIWA, Oyebamiji served two terms
as Osun State Commissioner for Finance and later worked as Special Adviser to
the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The experienced banker, economist, and administrator is
expected to officially announce his entry into the Osun gubernatorial race in
the weeks ahead.
