Friday, November 14, 2025 - The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated Gabon 4 -1 in the semi-finals of the African section of the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs.
After a goalless first half, Super Eagles forward Akor
Adams, who plays in the Spanish La Liga for Sevilla, broke the deadlock in the
78th minute.
However, Galatasaray midfielder Mario Lemina scored late
with an equalizing goal in the 89th minute to end the full-time play at 1 -1.
In the first half of the extra time, Sevilla winger Chidera
Ejuke, restored the lead for Nigeria in the first half of extra time, before
talisman Victor Osimhen ensured a two-goal cushion in the 102nd minute.
The Galasatary striker later added another goal to complete
his brace five minutes into the second stanza.
The Super Eagles will take on either DR Congo or Cameroon in
the finals on Sunday, November 16.
The overall winner will advance to the inter-confederation
play-offs in March 2026 in a bid to qualify for the World Cup finals in Canada,
Mexico, and the United States.
