Thursday, November 6, 2025 - Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, said Nigeria brought the embarrassment of being designated as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ and being threatened by US President Donald Trump upon itself.
Falana stated this on Tuesday when he featured in an
interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television
“Why have we brought this embarrassment to ourselves as a people that we are
being treated as a neocolony of the United States of America? We cannot even
challenge Mr Trump, ‘How dare you? Where is this hypocrisy coming from,” he
asked.
Recall that Trump last week designated Nigeria as a
Country of Particular Concern, CPC, in response to allegations of
widespread persecution and genocide against Christians.
He later threatened military action if the Nigerian
government failed to address the issue quickly.
Trump’s comment had sparked a wave of debate, with the
Federal Government denying the allegation.
According to the senior lawyer, the recent development is a
wake-up call for Nigeria to put its house in order.
