Friday, November 14, 2025 - The family of the late singer, Mohbad, has banned his widow, Wunmi from using their surname.
Wunmi was formally prohibited from using Aloba, her late
husband’s family name pending the outcome of a DNA test to confirm the
paternity of their son, Liam.
This came amid the ongoing paternity dispute with Wunmi
following Mohbad’s controversial death on September 12, 2023.
Mohbad died after he received an injection from an auxiliary
nurse. His body was exhumed for an autopsy following the public outcry.
In May 2025, the investigation suffered a setback when
pathologists reported that the cause of Mohbad’s death could not be determined.
However, in a new development, the family head, Omolayo
Aloba in an official statement jointly signed with the late singer’s father,
Joseph Aloba, restricted Wunmi from using the family name.
While arguing that Omowunmi was not legally married to
Mohbad, they noted that “For the avoidance of doubt, no statutory or customary
marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo, as the
required Yoruba traditional rites (payment of bride price) were never
completed”.
The family further named Oladayo Ogungbe as their sole legal
representative for the DNA case and Mohbad’s estate, while Wahab Shittu will
continue to handle all matters with investigative authorities regarding his
death.
The statement added that both the child and Wunmi would be
included in the estate administration process after the DNA test confirms Liam
as Mohbad’s biological son.
