LAUTECH temporarily shut after 200-level student is killed by hit-and-run driver

Sunday, November 9, 2025 - The management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Iseyin campus, has approved a two-week suspension of activities following the d3ath of a student, Miss Afolayan Oluwadarasimi Roseline, who was k!lled by a yet-to-be-identified commercial driver. 

The incident occurred on the Iseyin/Saki Road in Oyo State on Friday morning, November 7, 2025.

It was gathered that Darasimi, a 200-level student of the Agricultural Economics Department, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, LAUTECH Iseyin Campus, was on her way to refill her gas when the reckless bus driver fatally struck her from behind.

It was further gathered that other students, who staged a protest, set the commercial vehicle ablaze after discovering that the driver had fled the scene.

The Registrar of the institution, Olayinka Balogun, who confirmed the incident on Saturday said the management had approved a two-week suspension of activities at the Iseyin campus following the student’s d3ath.

“The management of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin,” the statement read.

"This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

"In light of this grievous loss, and in recognition of the emotional toll it has taken on our students and staff, the university management has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin campus, effective immediately.

"Consequently, all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to proceed on a two-week break.

“While students will be expected back in their classrooms on Monday, November 24, 2025, when academic activities resume, officers on essential services who may be required to be on duty will be informed in the usual manner.”

Balogun urged all students to remain safe, support one another, and honour the memory of their departed colleague.
