Wednesday, November 26, 2025 - Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has announced the arrest of a truck driver whose reckless actions endangered motorists and pedestrians along the Ojota–Maryland corridor on Tuesday.
According to the statement issued on Tuesday, November 25,
2025, by the Ministry, operatives of the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection
Service, VIS, intercepted the truck at Ojota after discovering multiple safety
violations, including a shattered windscreen, faulty brakes, lack of valid
vehicle documents, and an improperly secured container.
Officials said the driver attempted to flee during the
interception, speeding through Maryland and damaging three vehicles in the
process.
The Ministry noted that the escape attempt further
heightened the risk to other road users before VIS officers were able to bring
the vehicle to a stop.
The truck has since been impounded, and the driver is
expected to be prosecuted.
Director of Public Affairs, Bolanle Ogunlola, commended the
VIS team for their swift response and professionalism, describing the incident
as another reminder of the dangers posed by non-compliant heavy-duty vehicles
on Lagos roads.
The Ministry urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic
and safety regulations, stressing that collective responsibility is essential
to reducing road hazards across the state.
