Friday, November 28, 2025 - Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo confronted an officer of the Federal Fire Service after discovering that the water tank on one of their trucks was only half-filled, warning that such negligence was unacceptable, especially during the harmattan season when fire outbreaks are more frequent and often devastating.
Visibly displeased, the minister told the officer that
firefighters must remain fully prepared at all times and position themselves
near high-risk, high-traffic areas where emergencies could arise without
warning. He rejected what he described as excuses for the team’s lack of
readiness.
According to him, firefighters, like every public
official, including himself, are funded by taxpayers and are not paid to
be docile. He stressed that their duty is to be alert, equipped, and
strategically positioned to respond immediately whenever lives and property are
at risk.
