Tuesday, November 11, 2025 - The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has stated that the objective of the mass killings by Boko Haram and ISWAP is to Islamise Nigeria and is not targeted at Christians alone.
The Executive Secretary of NHRC, Tony Ojukwu, made this
comment in response to US President Donald Trump’s threat to intervene in
Nigeria and apprehend terrorists allegedly involved in a Christian genocide.
He made the statement on Monday while presenting the October
2025 Human Rights Situation Dashboard, a monthly evidence-based report used to
track patterns of human rights violations nationwide.
“Ladies and gentlemen, permit me a moment to comment on
recent diplomatic events relating to the United States threats to intervene in
Nigeria’s internal affairs due to the killing of Christians in Nigeria.
“Boko Haram’s killings aim at Islamizing Nigeria, affect
Christians and Muslims alike.
“There is no doubt that conflicts and insurgency in Nigeria
has led to the killings by religious extremists on Christian civilians in parts
of Nigeria, it is important to highlight that citizens from other faiths have
also been victims,” he said.
