Sunday, November 30, 2025 -Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has officially tied the knot with his partner, Jodie Haydon — becoming the first sitting PM in the country’s history to get married while in office.
The couple exchanged vows on Saturday afternoon at The
Lodge, his official residence in Canberra, just a day after parliament wrapped
up its final sitting for the year, BBC reported.
In a brief statement, Albanese said they were “absolutely
delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives
together, in front of our family and closest friends.”
The wedding was kept strictly under wraps for security reasons, with only close family members and top cabinet ministers in attendance. Jodie Haydon’s parents, as well as Albanese’s son Nathan, were present to witness the ceremony.
In a cute twist, the prime minister’s dog, Toto, served as
the ring bearer, while the couple walked back down the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s
classic, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)”. Albanese later
shared a video of the moment, showing guests showering them with confetti.
At the reception, the newlyweds had their first dance to
Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.” Guests were also
treated to custom-made beer cans featuring the same photo the couple used to
announce their engagement.
Albanese, 62, and Haydon, 47, got engaged on Valentine’s Day
last year. They first met at a business dinner in Melbourne in 2020, back when
he was opposition leader.
The pair will spend Monday to Friday next week honeymooning
within Australia — a shorter plan than originally intended due to his
re-election commitments.
