Wednesday, November 12, 2025 - A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara State, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the party.
Shinkafi, a former National Secretary of the All
Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, made the declaration while addressing
supporters in Gusau, the state capital.
He said the era of imposing candidates within the APC was
over, stressing that all party members had equal rights to seek elective
positions.
“I am a qualified member of the APC and I have the right to
contest the primary election for any position in the party,” he stated.
Shinkafi lamented that the Zamfara West Senatorial Zone had
dominated the state’s leadership since 1999, noting that other zones had been
marginalised.
“Former Governor Ahmed Sani Yarima governed the state for
eight years and later spent 12 years in the Senate. Abdulaziz Yari also ruled
for eight years, while Bello Matawalle governed for four years. All are from
Zamfara West,” he said.
He added that Zamfara North, which produced Mahmuda Aliyu
Shinkafi for only four years, deserved a chance in 2027.
However, another APC chieftain in the state, Aminu Muhammad
Kaura, has expressed support for Minister of State for Defence, Bello
Matawalle, as the preferred APC governorship candidate in 2027.
Kaura said many stakeholders and supporters were already
rallying behind Matawalle ahead of the next general election, describing him as
a unifying figure within the party.
