Angry mob beat suspected robber to death in Yobe




Thursday, November 27, 2025 - A mob beat a suspected robber to d3ath in Azam Kura, Bade Local Government Area of the state. 

The spokesperson of the Yobe State Police Command SP Dungus Abdulkarim, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 said the suspect had st@bbed a homeowner while attempting to steal a water pump from his residence. 

According to the PPRO, the incident which occurred on November 25, escalated into mob action by angry residents of the community. 

“There was a reported case of theft involving a lone suspect who attempted to steal a water pump from a residence. In the course of trying to apprehend the suspect, the homeowner sustained a st@b injury to the stomach,” the statement read. 

"The incident escalated into mob action by agitated community members, which resulted in the d3ath of the suspect.

"This unfortunate incident underscores the rising risks associated with burglary attempts and the need for coordinated and lawful response measures by residents.

The Command, however, gave security advisory and safety tips to members of the community who are strongly advised to avoid direct confrontation with suspects because the criminals may be armed or violent.

It added that the victim should immediately alert the Police or local security operatives, report suspicious movements or attempted break-ins through available emergency and divisional contacts.

"Members of the community are strongly advised as follows: 1. Avoid direct confrontation with suspects. Criminals may be armed or violent. Your safety comes first. 2. Immediately alert the Police or local security operatives. Report suspicious movements or attempted break-ins through available emergency and divisional contacts. 3. Discourage mob action. Taking the law into one’s own hands can lead to serious injuries, loss of life, and legal consequences," the PPRO said.

"4. If a crime is in progress, maintain a safe distance and observe. Provide clear information to authorities (description, direction of escape, number of suspects) 5. Enhance environmental and home security:Secure residence perimeter and entry points. Install lighting and motion sensors. Use locks and chains for valuable equipment such as water pumps and generators.

“6. Seek medical and security assistance immediately if injuries occur. 7. Promote community surveillance, not vigilantism. Build cooperation with the Police, vigilante groups, and neighbourhood watch teams for formal response.”
