Monday, December 1, 2025 - A mass shooting at a family gathering in Stockton, California, has left at least four people dead and ten others injured, including both adults and children. The attack happened around 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, at a local restaurant and banquet hall where relatives had gathered. While police have not officially confirmed the nature of the event, city officials say it occurred during a child’s birthday party.
Deputy Mayor Jason Lee wrote, “A birthday party should never
be a place where families fear for their lives.” He added that the tragedy had
shaken him deeply as a Stockton native and said he would be demanding answers
from public safety officials.
Authorities say the shooter is still on the loose, and early
indications point to the attack being “targeted.” San Joaquin County Sheriff’s
Office spokeswoman Heather Brent called the situation “unfathomable,” noting,
“This is a very active and ongoing investigation, and information remains
limited. Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and
investigators are exploring all possibilities.”
Mayor Christina Fugazi condemned the violence, saying,
“Families should be together instead of at the hospital, standing next to their
loved one, praying that they survive.”
When deputies arrived, they found four people dead from
gunfire and ten others suffering from bullet wounds. The injured victims were
transported to nearby hospitals, though their conditions have not yet been
released.
Police are now reviewing evidence and appealing for
witnesses or anyone with video footage to come forward as the search for the
gunman intensifies. The shooting has renewed concerns around violence in
California, a state with some of the strictest gun laws in the U.S., and comes
amid ongoing national debates over gun rights and public safety.
