Saturday, November 22, 2025 - Four members of a notorious criminal syndicate have been k!lled during a gun battle with operatives of the Delta State Police Command.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, who
disclosed this in a statement on Friday, November 21, 2025 said the syndicate
is linked to robbery, m8rder, r@pe and other heinous crimes within the Ughelli
North Local Government Area of the state.
According to the PPRO, operatives of the CP-Special
Assignment Team (CP-SAT) stormed gang's hideout at the outskirts of Ughelli and
arrested four suspects during the operation.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the m8rder of
one Anthony Igoroko Omowho, who was trailed to a hospital and st@bbed to d3ath
in front of his wife.
The gang further confessed to robbing a POS operator and her
husband the same day, inflicting injuries and r@ping the victim’s 18-year-old
sister-in-law.
Operatives, while withdrawing from the bush, were ambushed
by other gang members but repelled the attack with superior firepower.
During the gun battle, the four arrested suspects were
struck by bullets fired by the fleeing hoodlums and were confirmed d3ad at
General Hospital, Ughelli.
“The Delta State Police Command, under the strategic
leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has continued
to intensify its fight against violent crime across the State,” the statement
read.
"Recent coordinated operations carried out in Agbarho
and Ughelli have led to the arrest of a suspected armed robber, the recovery of
multiple firearms, and the death of suspected notorious criminal syndicate
responsible for armed robbery, m8rder, r@pe, and other violent attacks within
the Ughelli axis.
"Based on credible intelligence on 19th November 2025,
operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) at about 2030hrs stormed
a criminal hideout at the outskirts of Panama Layout, Ughelli, identified as
the base of a violent syndicate responsible for multiple heinous crimes in
Ughelli North LGA.
Four suspects were arrested: Peter Ejenekevwe ‘m’, 31yrs,
a.k.a. Calamity (gang leader); Clever David ‘m’, 35yrs; Chukwuemeka Gospel
Onuchukwu ‘m’, 29yrs; and Onome Collins ‘m’, 32yrs.
"During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the
robbery and murder of one Anthony Igoroko Omowho at Ekredjebor on 11th November
2025, admitting to robbing him and his wife, trailing him to Saint Nicholas
Hospital, and st@bbing him to d3ath after robbing nurses on duty.
"They also confessed to robbing a POS operator and her
husband the same day, inflicting injuries and r@ping the victim’s 18-year-old
sister-in-law.
"Preliminary investigation led the operatives to
further advance into the bush, where the following items were recovered: two
locally made long guns, twenty-three live cartridges, three locally made short
guns, and two Lexus 350 Jeep keys, which led to the recovery of the victim’s
vehicle (Reg. No. KUJ 788 DR).
"While withdrawing from the bush, the operatives were
ambushed by suspected gang members but repelled the attack with superior
firepower.
"During the exchange, the four suspects were struck by
bullets fired by the fleeing hoodlums and were confirmed d3ad at General
Hospital, Ughelli.
“Unfortunately, a police officer got injured in the
encounter and is receiving treatment. Meanwhile, the corpses of the suspects
have been deposited in the morgue, and the investigation is still ongoing.”
