Wednesday, October 22, 2025 - Tragedy struck in Zaria, Kaduna State, as Hadiza Musa, Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit at Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, was killed by suspected assailants who attempted to snatch her mobile phone.
Naija News reports
that the incident occurred on Saturday evening while she was returning home
after visiting a salon and an Islamic chemist in Filin Mallawa, Tudun Wada,
Zaria.
According to Daily Trust, her husband, Hamza Ibrahim Idris,
who works in Abuja, confirmed the development, saying his last conversation
with her was around 6 p.m. after she left the chemist.
“After transferring some money to her, our
last call was when she left the chemist. From then, I couldn’t reach her again.
I kept calling till the following morning, thinking her phone battery had gone
down,” Idris narrated.
According to Idris, his wife had boarded a commercial
motorcycle around 6:30 p.m. when she was attacked by assailants.
“There were signs that her hands were squeezed, showing
someone forced her hands while trying to snatch the phone. They also hit her
hard on the head, and she bled profusely, which to my assumption led to her
death,” he said.
He explained that after she slipped into a coma, the
attackers took away her phone and dumped her by the roadside near Mallawa Eid
ground in Tudun Wada.
A good Samaritan who found her rushed her to a nearby clinic
before she was referred to ABU Teaching Hospital, Shika, where doctors
confirmed her dead.
Idris further revealed that the tragedy occurred barely
three months after the death of Hadiza’s sister, whose three children she had
adopted.
“She now left behind three of her own children
and the three she adopted,” he said in grief.
The Hospital Secretary, Abdulkadir Balele Wali, described
the late nurse as a dedicated professional.
“She was the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit
and had worked till late hours on Friday. She was professional, hardworking,
and very committed to saving lives. Her death is a great loss to the entire
hospital,” Wali said.
