Israeli military still killing civilians in Gaza - UN Human Rights office

Thursday, October 16, 2025 - The UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has stated that the Israeli military "continues to kill civilians" in Gaza around the areas from which it has redeployed since the ceasefire, citing that at least 15 Palestinians have been shot and killed in those areas since October 10.

The office declared on X that "Targeting civilians not directly participating in hostilities constitutes a war crime regardless of the location of the incident and its proximity to agreed deployment line."

When asked for a response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN that in one instance on Tuesday, "several suspects were identified crossing the yellow line and approaching IDF troops operating in the northern Gaza Strip," and that Israeli troops "opened fire to remove the threat" after trying to distance them.

This follows a claim by a Gaza City resident, Moemen Hassanein, to Reuters news agency that the Israeli military is shooting at civilians, saying, "They haven’t withdrawn, it’s all lies. When we go out, they shoot at us."

Meanwhile, while Israel and Hamas have both accused the other of violating the ceasefire, there is currently no indication that the deal is in jeopardy.
