Saturday, October 11, 2025 - Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, is set to formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, the state capital.
Sources within both parties told The Nation that the
defection event will be held in grand style. Governor Mbah is expected to join
the ruling APC alongside elected national and state legislators, members of the
state executive council, and party leaders from ward and local government
levels across Enugu State.
APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and
Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, gave strong indications of
the move during the inauguration of a seven-man caretaker committee for the
party in Enugu. They described the development as part of ongoing efforts to
strengthen the APC’s influence in the South East and build a more formidable
presence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Confirming the plan, the newly inaugurated Enugu State APC
Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, told journalists at the APC
National Secretariat in Abuja that Governor Mbah and his political allies will
be formally received into the party on October 14.
Dr. Nwoye said, “The governor and his appointees will
officially be received into the APC on October 14. This marks the beginning of
a new chapter for Enugu State under the leadership of the ruling party.”
The defection follows the dissolution of the Enugu State
Working Committee (SWC) by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) last
Thursday, which subsequently appointed a seven-member caretaker committee to
manage the party’s affairs in the state.
Party insiders believe Mbah’s entry into the APC will
reshape political dynamics in Enugu and the broader South East region,
potentially consolidating federal and state collaboration under the ruling
party’s banner.
