Monday, October 20, 2025 - Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has unveiled 50 brand-new, luxury 18-seater buses for the Zamfara State Transport Company, describing the initiative as both a fulfillment of his promise and a legacy that marks the rebirth of the state’s public transport system.
The unveiling ceremony took place on in Gusau, the state capital,
where the governor said the move demonstrated his administration’s commitment
to discipline, accountability, and long-term progress.
The new buses, according to details of the launch, are modern,
air-conditioned vehicles designed for passenger comfort and safety. They
feature cushioned interiors, seatbelts, reliable suspension systems for rough
roads, and GPS tracking devices that enable real-time monitoring of their
location and performance.
Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal said the unveiling symbolized
a new era for Zamfara, one that prioritizes sustainability over ceremony and
substance over symbolism.
“Many have asked why it took time between the arrival of these
buses and their proper deployment to commence operation,” he said.
“In the past, governments might have rushed to inaugurate
them immediately, content with ribbon-cutting ceremonies without addressing the
deeper structures that ensure sustainability. But my administration is
different. We do not rush where caution is required. We are not satisfied with
mere symbolism when the substance of governance is at stake. That delay was
deliberate” he added.
He explained that his government had put in place proper
frameworks of accountability, monitoring, and management to ensure the buses
serve the public effectively and avoid the mismanagement that plagued previous
administrations.
The governor underscored the importance of transportation to
the state’s development, noting that Zamfara serves as a key link between
several states in northern Nigeria, including Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna,
Bauchi, and Gombe.
Governor Lawal urged residents to take ownership of public
property and ensure the protection of the new buses.
