Friday, October 10, 2025 - Augustine Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has strongly refuted media reports suggesting he is being considered to replace current Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle
Eguavoen expressed his distress over the "baseless
rumours," which also claimed that he and Ladan Bosso were being tipped to
lead the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The former international clarified his position, stating
that the speculation is both hurtful and completely unfounded.
“I feel very hurt by these baseless rumours because I really
have no idea where they are coming from,” Eguavoen told the thenff.com website.
He emphasized his commitment to the current coaching staff,
stating: “I have a very good working relationship with Coach Éric Chelle, and I
have absolutely no interest in taking over the squad. I am praying for him to
succeed.”
Eguavoen cautioned against such reports, recalling similar
instances in the past.
“This was how the same speculators created schism and
disaffection between myself and Gernot Rohr and José Peseiro, when these
gentlemen coached the Super Eagles, at different periods. It is uncalled-for.”
He concluded with a call for unity, stressing the team’s
collective goals: “We all need to work together to see the Super Eagles qualify
for the World Cup and win the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations championship in
Morocco.”
