Wednesday, October 1, 2025 - The Zamfara State Police Command has a notorious bandit, Muhammadu Dan Kani, popularly known as “Akki,” and intercepted 33 firearms and 257 rounds of live ammunition in separate operations across the state.

Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, made this known while addressing journalists at the
police headquarters in Gusau on Tuesday, September 29, 2025.
He said the breakthrough was made possible through
intensified patrols and credible intelligence.
“On September 15, operatives on routine patrol along the
Gummi-Sokoto road intercepted a Toyota Corolla conveying arms hidden inside a
sack of oranges. The items recovered included four AK-47 rifles, 200 rounds of
PKT ammunition, 28 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and four empty magazines. A
suspect, Nasuru Dawan Jiya, confessed he was transporting the weapons to
bandits in Gurusu Village," the CP stated.
The notorious bandit “Akki,” from Funtua, Katsina State was
arrested on September 17.
Items recovered from him included 11 fabricated firearms, 25
rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and six live cartridges.
Similarly, on September 19, along the Gusau-Sokoto Highway
near Gada Biyu, two suspects riding motorcycles were caught with 18 fabricated
guns.
On September 14, operatives also arrested a known drug
dealer, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu, in Gurusu Village with nine sacks of dried leaves
suspected to be Indian hemp
The command also reported the rescue of five kidnapped
victims in Talata Mafara on September 21. The victims were freed during a joint
operation by police, Community Protection Guards, and vigilantes after a gun
battle with the abductors.
CP Maikaba commended his men for their bravery and
professionalism.
He assured that the police remain determined to dismantle
criminal networks in Zamfara.
He appealed to residents to continue supporting the police
with timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation is
vital to winning the fight against crime
