Wednesday, September 3, 2025 - Premier League clubs spent a record £3 billion ($4 billion) in the summer transfer window, reinforcing the league’s status as the “most competitive in world football,” according to financial experts Deloitte.
The window closed dramatically on Monday with Liverpool’s
British record signing of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak for £125 million,
capping a day of high-profile moves.
Deloitte reported that the total spend was approximately
£650 million higher than the previous record of £2.4 billion set in 2023. It
marks the third consecutive summer where spending exceeded £2 billion, and the
first time it has reached the £3 billion milestone.
Premier League spending accounted for 51% of the combined
total across Europe’s top five leagues – the Premier League, La Liga,
Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1 – far outpacing its rivals.
Tim Bridge, lead partner at Deloitte’s Sports Business
Group, said:
“A third
record-breaking summer of Premier League spending in four years sends a strong
signal that, despite subdued spending across the rest of the continent, clubs
have no plans to slow down their investment in the on-pitch product.
With more
English teams than ever competing in European competitions, Premier League
clubs are looking to attract the best talent and further cement the league as
the most competitive in world football.”
