Saturday, September 20, 2025 - The Gombe State Police Command has rescue two abandoned babies and arrested three suspects.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, who
disclosed this in a statement on Friday, September 19, 2025 said the police rescue
a newborn baby boy abandoned inside a commercial tricycle by a female passenger
suspected to be the mother.
“On
09/09/2025 at about 1930hrs, one Auwal Abdullahi ‘M’ of Kwadon, Y/Deba, Gombe,
a Keke Napep rider, brought to the Gona Divisional Police Station a new born
baby boy inside a carton,” the statement read.
"He
stated that an unknown woman holding a carton boarded his Keke Napep from
Madaki Quarters, Gombe, to BCGA Quarters, Gombe. On reaching YD Filling Station
Junction, BCGA, she asked him to stop under the pretense of withdrawing money
from a nearby POS. He waited for her, but she did not return. He then checked
the carton and discovered a baby inside.
"Upon
receipt of the report, the new born baby was taken into safe custody and
thereafter handed over to Gombe State Social Welfare. The case is still under
investigation. Members of the public, particularly tricyclists and taxi
drivers, are advised to always monitor their passengers and their luggage.
In a similar
development, a three-month-old baby was rescued after being allegedly given
away by the mother in connivance with one Adama Ibrahim.
According to
the PPRO, the child was handed over to another woman who fled with the
baby.
“On
15/09/2025 at about 1500hrs, one Karo Garba ‘F’ of Liji Quarters, Y/Deba, Gombe
State, reported at Kwadon Division that one Fatima Abdullahi, 20 years old ‘F’
of Nayi-Nawa Crossfire, Damaturu, Yobe State, conspired with one Adama Ibrahim
‘F’ of the same address and gave away her three-month-old baby to one Fatima
Haruna ‘F’ of Liji Quarters, Gombe State, who ran away with the baby,” the
statement read.
"The
suspects were tracked and arrested at the Trailer Park, Tumfure, Akko LGA,
Gombe State. Investigation is still ongoing, and the suspects will be charged
to court as soon as the investigation is completed.
“The Command
advises the general public to be watchful of young ladies who are not known to
their immediate communities and to report any suspicious movement.”
