Wednesday, September 24, 2025 - The Enugu State Police Command announced that its officers have arrested a suspected drug dealer during a raid on a suspected drug syndicate’s hideout in Amaowere-Nike, Enugu, the state capital
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations
Officer of the Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the operation was carried out on
September 19, 2025, at about 7am by operatives of the Unity Division in
collaboration with Forest Guards.
Ndukwe said the raid, conducted on a container shop used for
peddling illicit drugs, was part of a broader intelligence-led effort ordered
by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
“The intelligence-guided operation led to the arrest of one
suspect, Elias Ukachukwu Agu (male, aged 43), who, upon interrogation,
confessed to being involved in the sale of illicit drugs and substances,” Ndukwe
stated.
“Exhibits recovered include fourteen (14) cups and
twenty-five (25) sachets of a substance suspected to be Canadian Loud (commonly
called Loud), six (6) sachets of a substance suspected to be Colorado (commonly
called Colos), both variants of cannabis, one weed crusher, and two packets of
Rizla.”
The police said that the suspect would be charged to court
once investigations are concluded.
CP Giwa cautioned young people and the wider public against
involvement in the sale or consumption of narcotics.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting crime,
stressing that the police, working with community groups, would sustain raids
and arrests to weaken the supply of illicit drugs in Enugu State.
The latest arrest added to a string of operations recently
launched by security agencies in Enugu against drug trafficking and abuse.
In August 2025, operatives of the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in a joint operation with police personnel,
dismantled a suspected drug syndicate operating around New Artisan Market,
Enugu, seizing large quantities of cannabis sativa and methamphetamine.
Several suspects were also arrested in that operation
Similarly, in July 2025, the Enugu State Police reportedly
raided a notorious black spot at Ogbete Main Market, arresting three suspects
with bags of cannabis and bottles of codeine syrup.
Authorities said the clampdown was part of efforts to curb
the rising involvement of young people in drug abuse and related crimes such as
cultism and violent robbery.
