Monday, September 22, 2025 - The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 28-year-old John Samuel, 37 days after he allegedly shot and robbed a businessman of his gold necklace in Ikeja.
Samuel, who was released from prison earlier this year after
serving a six-year sentence for armed robbery, was said to have returned to
crime almost immediately.
On August 18, 2025, he allegedly fired at businessman Gbenga
Obama on Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, injuring him before snatching his gold
necklace and other valuables in broad daylight.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage captured the
suspect shooting the victim with a pistol while his accomplice waited on a
motorcycle. The victim, who sustained serious gunshot wounds, has since been
treated and discharged.
Police operatives tracked and arrested Samuel on September
19, 2025, at his hideout in Epe.
Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the suspect
confessed to selling the stolen jewellery for N4 million, adding that efforts
were ongoing to apprehend other gang members.
“The suspect is notorious for shooting at victims before
dispossessing them of their valuables. He will be prosecuted upon conclusion of
investigations,” Adebisi said
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the
operatives for the arrest and assured Lagos residents of their safety.
Meanwhile, in Borno State, the Police Command has arrested
five suspects for allegedly stealing 7,871 units of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic
Food (RUTF) meant for malnourished children.
Police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, said operatives of the
Rapid Response Squad intercepted two separate vehicles — a Sharon Galaxy bus
and a Volkswagen Golf — at Njimtilo and Legacy Housing Estate, Maiduguri,
between April and June 2025. The vehicles were found to be conveying large
quantities of RUTF intended for hospitals and IDP camps.
Daso disclosed that all five suspects admitted to the crime
during the investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID)
and have been charged in court.
He added that the recovered food supplies have been handed
over to the state government through the Commissioner of Health, Prof Baba
Mallam Gana, for proper distribution.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and
report suspicious activities in their communities to security agencies.
