Saturday, September 6, 2025 - The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has issued a public health advisory following the declaration of an Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Saturday, the agency
said that although no case has been detected in Nigeria, it is closely
monitoring the situation to ensure early detection and preparedness.
The NCDC urged members of the public to adopt preventive
measures such as regular handwashing with soap and running water, avoiding
contact with individuals showing symptoms of Ebola — including fever, vomiting,
diarrhoea, and unexplained bleeding — refraining from bushmeat consumption, and
ensuring animal products are properly cooked.
Healthcare workers were advised to strictly adhere to
infection prevention and control protocols and use personal protective
equipment when managing patients.
The agency also encouraged individuals with recent travel
history to affected areas who develop symptoms to call the NCDC hotline on 6232
or contact their State Ministry of Health immediately.
