I’m open to joining APC - KWANKWASO

Saturday, September 20, 2025 - Former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has indicated his readiness to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) if certain conditions are met.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the NNPP in Kano on Friday, Kwankwaso said any potential return would require clear recognition of his political movement and guarantees regarding the positions of his allies currently holding office.

Kwankwaso, who played a role in the formation of the APC, recalled what he described as sacrifices made by himself and his supporters during the party’s early years. He lamented that despite their efforts, they were sidelined during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“We are among the founders of the APC. We faced enormous challenges, including arrests of our members and personal attacks through various government agencies. Yet, when the party came to power, our contributions were neither acknowledged nor rewarded,” Kwankwaso said.

The NNPP leader stressed that while he is open to rejoining the APC, such a move must secure clear benefits for his political associates, including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, legislators, and other party officeholders.

“If we are to return, we must know the fate of our governor, senators, representatives, and other stakeholders in government. Without clarity on this, there is no basis for discussion,” he added.

Kwankwaso accused both the APC and PDP of failing to respect his political integrity in the past, insisting that any future collaboration must be rooted in honesty and transparency.

“We are not in a hurry to leave the NNPP. But if genuine overtures are made, and if we are assured of fair treatment, we are ready to engage,” he stated.
