Saturday, September 13, 2025 - Operatives of the Nigeria Police Special Fraud Unit, NPSFU, Ikoyi, Lagos, have arrested a driver, Adegboye Moshood, for allegedly stealing N10 million in cash alongside valuables belonging to his employer, Abbey Anibaba, before fleeing.
Police reports indicate that the incident occurred in May
2025, shortly after Anibaba travelled abroad, leaving his driver behind to
oversee the residence.
On his return, Anibaba reportedly discovered that both
Moshood and several personal items were missing. Efforts to contact the driver
proved futile, prompting him to file a complaint with the police.
Acting on intelligence, detectives tracked Moshood to a
hideout in Lagos, where he was apprehended and subsequently arraigned before
the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court.
During proceedings, the Police Prosecutor, Reuben Solomon,
alleged that Moshood betrayed the confidence reposed in him by his employer,
carting away N10 million in cash, wristwatches, gold chains, and other
valuables before absconding.
He added that the offence contravened Section 287 of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty. His counsel,
Anayo Agbo, appealed to the court for bail on liberal terms, arguing that his
client is married with children and had no intention of fleeing if released.
Magistrate K.K. Awoyinka granted bail in the sum of N500,000
with two sureties in like sum but ordered Moshood’s remand at the Ikoyi
Correctional Facility until the bail conditions are perfected. The case was
adjourned for further hearing.
