ADC focused on winning presidency in 2027 - AREGBESOLA

Monday, September 15, 2025 - The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Secretary and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed optimism about the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ADC has, however, welcomed notable political figures into its folds.

Aregbesola spoke during a ceremony where a former close ally of President Bola Tinubu and leader of the Conscience Forum, Moshood Salvador, joined the ADC alongside thousands of his group’s members.

The former Osun State governor, who noted the hardship Nigerians are facing under the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, lamented the high cost of living.

He, however, vowed that the ADC would unseat President Bola Tinubu and also produce the next governor of Lagos State in 2027.

He said, “I am happy to be a part of this gathering. I am also happy to receive you into the ADC folds. We are the only ones who can make it difficult to take over wherever we are.

“With our resolve, it won’t be difficult at all to take over the seat of power. It’s a simple strategy of one getting 10, and each of the 10 will equally get 10. Its operation is 10 over 10.

“Once we can get this done, that’s the end of it. We will surely meet at the Aso Rock Villa and produce the next President of the country. Once again, I am happy to be here, and we must not relax in our efforts to change Nigeria.”

Salvador, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Lagos State and former member of the House of Representatives, cited the Labour Party’s (LP) internal crisis as a reason for joining the ADC.

He pledged that the group’s over 400,000 members in Lagos State would defect and register with the ADC, saying that this is a way forward for the country.

A former lawmaker and commissioner in Lagos State, Rahman Owokoniran, who also joined the ADC from the PDP, said the party is positioned to liberate Nigeria from governance challenges.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the APC has dismissed Aregbesola’s assertion that the ADC will “take over Aso Rock and Lagos Government House” in 2027, describing it as an empty boast, met with laughter and pity.

Lagos APC Spokesman, Seye Oladejo, who spoke yesterday on the issue, described Aregbesola’s condemnation of the APC as an act of shredding his own résumé, saying that with every attack on the APC, he is damaging the foundation of his career.
