Monday, September 29, 2025 - Veteran Yoruba actress, Lola Idije, has spoken frankly about the struggles of being a single parent and the way society treats women, especially actresses.
In a recent interview with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Lola
Idije explained in Yoruba that single parenting is not an easy road at all.
According to her, it comes with endless challenges, especially when raising
children without a partner’s support.
She revealed that as a single parent, you carry heavy
responsibilities alone — from school fees to daily upkeep — and most people are
not willing to help. She stressed that even when relatives or friends promise
to assist, many times it ends in disappointment.
Lola Idije didn’t stop there. She said many men are
generally not serious. According to her, some only come around because they’ve
placed a bet with friends that they’ll “get the lady.” She added that the way
men look at actresses is sometimes very disrespectful, believing that with as
little as ₦500,000 they can get any woman in the industry.
The actress also warned women to be careful with trust,
saying, “Trust no one.” She added that it is painful when people who can afford
to support single parents prefer to “flex” instead of helping those in need.
Speaking further, Lola Idije noted that despite all these
challenges, many women keep pushing for the sake of their children.
