Sunday, September 7, 2025 - Kano State Chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), yesterday said it had expelled a top member of its party and member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa.
Jibrin,
who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, was a close ally of both
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party,
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, until the recent development.
Speaking
during a news briefing in Kano, the NNPP state chairman, Hashim Sulieman
Dungurawa, said the embattled lawmaker overstepped the bounds of the party and
would no linger be tolerated.
He accused him
of anti-party conduct, repeated media outbursts against the party and its
leadership as well as unmet financial obligations to the party.Dungurawa recalled
that Jibrin emerged victorious in the last elections due primarily to the
backing of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the NNPP platform than his personal
political strength.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his
previous elections under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP
through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House member. Now he is deceiving himself
thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa stressed
The chairman recalled that the party did not just act on his
case but had set up a reconciliation committee to engage him after his last
interview with Channels Television.
He regretted that nothing tangible was achieved from the
intervention as his subsequent media outings proved he had not changed.
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our
interest, openly declaring loyalty to another party. That is why we expelled
him. He has no value to add,” he lamented.
Dungurawa further accused Jibrin of failure to honour the mandatory party dues as a member of the party, vowing that NNPP would institute a legal action to recover the funds.
