Wednesday, September 24, 2025 - Two men, a 30-year-old Victor Otache and Wisdom Abudu, 22, were on Tuesday, September 23, arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute Meta on Tuesday, for allegedly stealing food items valued at N2.5 million.
The two men were arraigned by the police before Magistrate
Folashade Hughes on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and theft.
During the trial, police prosecutor, Inspector Philomena
Nnaji, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired to steal rice,
beans, palm oil, dressed chicken, fruits, garri, and other food items belonging
to a company located at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
Nnaji told the court that the offences, which violates
Sections 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, were
committed between April and September 14, 2025.
When the charges were read to them, the defendants pleaded
not guilty to the charges.
Based on this development, the defence counsel, B. N.
Nwaigwa urged the court to grant his clients bail on the most liberal terms.
In her ruling, Magistrate Hughes admitted each of the
defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000, with sureties in the like sum.
The magistrate also ordered that the defendants be remanded
at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ikoyi, pending the perfection of their
bail conditions.
She then adjourned the case to October 14, 2025, for further
hearing.
