Monday, August 11, 2025 - FCT police operatives have gunned down a suspected “one-chance” robber during a shootout along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Saka Ajao Adewale, shared the details
with reporters on Saturday.
He stated that on Thursday, officers from the Anti-’One Chance’
unit were on a routine patrol when they saw a victim, identified as Angel
Patrick, being pushed from a moving vehicle.
According to him, one of the patrol teams quickly responded and
flagged down the vehicle to rescue the victim, who was then taken to
Zankwochihospital for medical attention.
He said the second patrol team, comprised of undercover officers,
pursued the fleeing suspects to the Aso area of Mararaba in Nasarawa State. The
chase, he said, led to a fierce gun battle, resulting in one of the suspects
being neutralized.
The suspect was later confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital.
According to the police chief, five other suspects were arrested,
including Jude Simon, Emmanuel Akor, Daniel Benson, Uche Thomas, and Tope Ola.
According to Adewale, these men were on the command’s wanted list, adding that
the police also recovered the gang’s operational vehicle, a dark grey Toyota
Corolla.
Adewale also revealed that one of the suspects, John Simon, had
been previously arrested for the same crime in December, 2024, charged, and
remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre.
Items recovered from the suspects, according to the police, include
the vehicle, six ATM cards, a jackknife, and a cash sum of N115,000, along with
other personal items suspected to belong to previous victims.
He said the arrested suspects have confessed to being “one-chance”
operators for several years.
CP Adewale commended the officers’ bravery and professionalism,
reaffirming the police’s commitment to flushing out criminals from the FCT.
He also urged residents to be vigilant when boarding vehicles and
to use only approved motor parks.
