Tuesday, August 5, 2025 - The Abia State Police Command has neutralised five members of a notorious kidnapping gang in a major breakthrough aimed at curbing abductions in the Umuozuo community.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer,
Maureen Chinaka, the operation followed credible intelligence that led a joint
tactical team to storm a kidnappers’ hideout at Umuiku Obete Village in Ukwa
West Local Government Area. The suspects were linked to multiple cases of
kidnapping in the region.
Recovered from the scene were six AK-47 rifles, 335 rounds
of ammunition, 14 magazines, five mobile phones, three cutlasses, five jackets,
one axe, one boot, several charms, and a double-barrel long gun.
Chinaka stated that investigations are ongoing to track down
other members of the gang who fled during the operation.
In a separate incident, officers from the Arochukwu
Divisional Headquarters recovered another double-barrel long gun at Amuvi
Village in Arochukwu.
Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa reaffirmed the Command’s
determination to eradicate crime and restore peace in all parts of the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing police efforts.
