Monday, August 11, 2025 - Tanko Yunusa, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has stated that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), remains loyal to the party.
Yunusa spoke on Saturday during the Obidient Movement
conference held in Oyo state with the theme “Going Forward: A New Nigeria is
Possible”.
He said Obi is committed to serving only one term if elected
president in 2027, adding that the term would be used to set Nigeria on the
path to recovery.
The LP chieftain stated that the party will build on its
2023 electoral momentum to achieve a political breakthrough in Oyo State and
unseat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2027.
Also speaking at the event, Francis Egbokhare, professor of
linguistics at the University of Ibadan, described Nigeria as “a giant lying
prostrate and trampled by dwarfs”.
He lamented the paradox of abundant talent being stifled by
systemic failure and warned against shallow political theatrics.
Egbokhare urged the movement to “change the game entirely”
if the current system cannot deliver justice and progress.
In his welcome address, Ayo Akinyemi, Oyo state Obidient
coordinator and convener of the event, described the conference as a strategic
rallying point for the movement in the state.
