Friday, August 29, 2025 - An Akure Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 29-year-old man, Olawande Akinbolade, at the Olokuta Correctional Facility for allegedly r3ping a seven-year-old girl.
Akinbolade, whose address was withheld in court, was charged
with r3pe by the police.
Magistrate Taiwo Lebi declined to take his plea, citing lack
of jurisdiction.
The prosecution, led by Supol Martins Olowofeso, told the
court that the alleged incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on May 24, 2025, at
Halibu Street, Okitipupa.
Olowofeso alleged that the suspect r3ped the girl inside his
compound and inflicted injury on her during the struggle, in violation of
Section 218 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand Akinbolade pending
advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
During proceedings, Akinbolade admitted to committing
similar offences on three previous occasions, claiming he was under an
unforeseen influence when the acts occurred and acknowledging that he would
eventually be caught.
In his ruling, Magistrate Lebi granted the prosecution’s
request, noting that the defendant’s confession in open court provided probable
cause for his remand.
He directed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded
to the DPP, adjourning the matter until November 20 for mention.
