Wednesday, August 20, 2025 - Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, Ijede Division, have arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber, recovering a locally made firearm from him.
According to the command, the arrest followed a distress
call on August 18, 2025, after residents reported that a man was openly
brandishing a gun and threatening people in the Sabon Kasuwa area of Abule Eko.
Acting swiftly, officers tracked the suspect, identified as Onamade Kayode, to
an uncompleted building, where he was apprehended.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kayode, previously
convicted for cult-related offences and released from prison in 2022, remains
an active member of a cult group.
During interrogation, he confessed to possessing a firearm
and subsequently led the operatives to a hidden spot inside a toilet pipe at
the same building, where the weapon was recovered.
The suspect is currently assisting investigators in efforts
to arrest other members of his cult group and recover additional weapons in
circulation. He will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh,
lauded the Ijede Division operatives for their swift response and
professionalism, which ensured the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of the
firearm.
