Thursday, August 7, 2025 - The Kaduna State Police Command has recovered unexploded military-grade bombs and a cache of weapons hidden inside a waste consignment transported into the state from Borno State, raising serious concerns over the unchecked movement of materials from conflict-ridden areas.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, in a statement, said
the dangerous items were discovered on August 2, 2025, following credible
intelligence received by the police.
The explosives were found at a scavenger company located in the
Kudandan Industrial Area of Kaduna South Local Government Area.
“A specialised team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)
unit, led by its commander, promptly responded to the scene. After a thorough
examination, the suspicious items were confirmed to be unexploded ordnance
(UXOs),” Hassan said.
He said the EOD operatives safely evacuated the explosives to a
secure location for controlled demolition, in line with safety protocols.
Hassan said during the operation, police recovered additional
weapons, including one locally fabricated revolver pistol fully loaded with six
rounds, 15 rounds of 7.2mm live ammunition, 3 live cartridges and other
assorted ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, immediately ordered
the sealing of the facility to allow a complete sweep by EOD personnel,
ensuring no further explosive devices were left behind.
He condemned the transportation of scrap and waste materials from
insurgency-prone areas into the state and warned scavenger companies to halt
such operations immediately.
He said investigations are ongoing to trace the origin and intent
behind the transported explosives.
