Wednesday, August 20, 2025 - A Kaduna Magistrates Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 26-year-old man, Usman Aliyu, for allegedly beating his friend into a coma during a dispute over a woman.
Aliyu, who resides in Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, pleaded not
guilty to the charge of assault.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the prosecution’s
request, made by Insp. Chidi Leo, to remand the defendant in a correctional
centre pending further hearing.
The case was adjourned until September 11 for consideration
of bail application.
According to the prosecutor, the incident occurred on August
14 at about 4 p.m. in Malali, Kaduna
Aliyu, allegedly intoxicated, stormed the home of his
friend, Shuaibu Hassan, armed with a cutlass.
He reportedly attacked and inflicted severe injuries on
Hassan during a quarrel over a girl he had been dating.
Leo said the victim was left in critical condition at the
hospital, adding that his survival remains uncertain.
The offence, he said, contravenes Section 221 of the Kaduna
State Penal Code, 2017.
