Wednesday, August 13, 2025 - A 41-year-old man from Waterfalls, Zimbabwe, has been arrested for allegedly torturing and beating his 19-year-old son to death after the teenager failed police recruitment tests. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 11, 2025.
Police identified the suspect as Gibson Munyoro, a security
officer, who had reportedly placed high hopes on his son, Ngonidzashe Munyoro,
joining the Zimbabwe Republic Police. Ngonidzashe attended recruitment
interviews at Mkushi Academy (formerly Morris Depot) on July 29 but was sent
home on August 2 after being deemed unfit for police duties.
According to eyewitnesses quoted by H-Metro, Gibson reacted
with violent rage, tying his son’s hands and legs, inserting an iron bar
between them, and suspending him between two tables. He then allegedly beat the
teenager repeatedly with a baton stick while warning neighbours not to
interfere.
The boy’s mother, Ruvimbo Masunga, rushed to the scene after
being alerted by neighbours and reportedly managed to pull him away from his
father with the help of others. However, Ngonidzashe succumbed to his injuries
at home before medical assistance could arrive.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore
Chakanza confirmed the arrest, saying the case is being investigated as murder,
with further details to follow.
