Sunday, August 3, 2025 - The Senate of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has expelled 57 students for their involvement in various forms of examination malpractice.
The decision was announced in a statement released by the
university management and signed by Hajiya Fatima Sanda, the institution’s Head
of Information and Protocol, on Saturday, August 2, in Katsina.
According to the statement, the action followed
recommendations from the University Central Examination Misconduct Committee
(UCEMC) and was ratified during the Senate’s 125th Regular Meeting. The
committee had conducted investigations into reported infractions across several
faculties before reaching its conclusions.
The statement also disclosed that five additional students
were rusticated for two semesters (2024/2025 session), with their affected
examination papers cancelled.
Two other students received official written warnings, which
will now remain permanently on their academic records. In the statement, UMYU
stressed that the disciplinary actions are in line with its firm stance on
academic integrity.
“UMYU remains committed to preserving the sanctity of its
academic standards and will not hesitate to sanction any act that undermines
the integrity of its examinations.
“Students have been urged to adhere strictly to academic
rules and avoid any form of malpractice, as future violations will be met with
equally strict consequences,” the statement said.
