Friday, August 8, 2025 - The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two young men in connection with the killing of 22-year-old Dauda Ahmed in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Babayo Musa, 20, and Zaidu Sani,
18, allegedly conspired with two other accomplices still on the run to attack
the victim with machetes over suspicions of motorcycle theft.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on
Tuesday morning at Jauro Musa Quarters, where Ahmed was ambushed and sustained
deep wounds to the head and stomach. He was rushed to the General Hospital in
Kumo but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi,
described the killing as a “clear case of criminal conspiracy and culpable
homicide,” stressing that jungle justice remains a crime regardless of the
allegation involved.
“Two suspects have been arrested and have confessed to the
attack. The remaining suspects, identified only as Sulaiman and Usama, are
still at large,” Abdullahi said.
“No one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
Such acts undermine the justice system, and all those responsible wills face
the full wrath of the law.”
The matter was first reported by the victim’s elder brother,
Dahiru Ahmed of Sarkin Yaki Quarters, prompting the Divisional Police Officer
of Akko Division, CSP Adam Ngubdo, to lead a team to the crime scene. The
suspects were later tracked and taken into custody.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal
Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution, while
police have urged residents to report crimes through official channels rather
than resorting to violence.
“We appeal to the public to remain law-abiding and assist in
tracking the fleeing suspects,” the police spokesman added.
